Leisurama Exhibition Staff Member

Do you have an interest in local history or the 1960s? Yes!? Then come and work at the Carl Fisher House this summer!

The Montauk Historical Society is opening an immersive, interactive exhibition at the Carl Fisher House about a 1960s housing development in Montauk called Leisurama. These homes were furnished by Macy’s to provide all the basics a family needed; everything from couches to toothbrushes awaited the new residents on the day they moved in. The exhibition will also explore the lives of Montauk’s summer residents and the period of the early-1960s in Montauk.

We are looking for seasonal employees to guide visitors through the exhibition, collect admission, and staff the Leisurama gift shop.  These employees will act both as a source of museum information for visitors and as security within the exhibit. They will speak knowledgeably about the exhibition and will treat visitors with courtesy regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexuality, etc. We are looking for full-time (40 hours/week) and part-time employees from the last week of June through the month of August. Pay is $17/hour.

We anticipate that these employees would have time to pursue other interests while working at the Leisurama exhibition, and would encourage them to pursue a historical interest of their own that aligns with our mission – to collect, restore, preserve and display historically significant buildings, objects, and writings, and to preserve the history and cultures of Montauk and the East End for this and future generations.
